A safer first AI project for a small business.
Reversible, small, and honest about what data is involved.
AI Biz Canada · July 11, 2026
You do not need a company-wide AI strategy to start. A single well-chosen project can free up hours a week without touching sensitive data.
Pick a task, not a technology
Start from something repetitive that already takes up hours: drafting quotes, summarising emails, cleaning up product descriptions, categorising invoices. Choose one.
Keep the first project reversible
- Use a monthly plan, not an annual contract.
- Don't connect it to production systems on day one.
- Keep a human review step in the loop.
Be honest about the data
Before you paste anything into an AI tool, ask: is this personal information, customer data, or confidential business content? If yes, check the tool's data-handling terms first, and consider a version with a business-grade privacy contract.
Measure the time saved
After two weeks, compare: how much time did this save, and did the output need heavy correction? That tells you whether to expand, keep, or drop it.
